Go Further marks 10 million cervical cancer screenings

In 2003, President George W. Bush introduced the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEFPAR). Today, the program has saved 26 million lives.

Women living with HIV are six times more likely to develop cervical cancer. When President and Mrs. Bush learned that many women were surviving HIV/AIDS but then tragically dying from a preventable disease, they committed to act.

In 2018, the George W. Bush Institute, PEPFAR, and UNAIDS announced Go Further, a partnership designed to end AIDS and cervical cancer in sub-Saharan Africa.

Go Further has completed more than 10 million cervical cancer screenings to date. Nearly 7 million women have been screened for the first time, and more than 421,000 women have received lifesaving treatment for precancerous lesions.
