Just over half a million people moved to the Dallas–Fort Worth metro region from another state in the U.S. between 2010 and 2020. Freakonomics host Stephen Dubner wanted to find out why, so he got on a plane and visited Dallas.

In the past decade, more people have relocated to Dallas-Fort Worth than anywhere else. Freakonomics host Stephen Dubner wanted to learn why, so he reached out to Cullum Clark, Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative Director, to give him a tour of the quickly growing metro.

In the first episode, Dubner explored the city limits of Dallas. He spoke with Clark about what makes Dallas so special and where it falls short. In this second installment, Dubner explored the surrounding suburbs of Dallas– Plano, McKinney, Frisco– and learned what turned them from “bedroom communities” to cities in their own right.
