Megan Bunce Announced as Bush Institute Director of Veterans and Military Families

DALLAS– The George W. Bush Institute announced today that military caregiver and veteran advocate, Megan Bunce, has joined the organization as the director of the Veterans and Military Families program. In this role, Bunce will lead the Bush Institute’s work to ensure veterans, servicemembers, and their loved ones make successful transitions to civilian life through research-driven policy recommendations.

“Megan Bunce is an excellent choice to lead our team supporting veterans and military families,” said David J. Kramer, executive director of the George W. Bush Institute and vice president of the George W. Bush Presidential Center. “Her personal and professional experience and leadership in the veteran community are combined with her great reputation in the field.”

Before joining the Bush Institute, Bunce served as the Deputy Director for Military and Veteran Affairs at The Boeing Company, where she co-led the “Our Heroes” portfolio, granting over $90 million globally to hundreds of military-serving organizations. She also championed enterprise-wide strategies to improve recruitment and retention of veterans and military spouses. Bunce has also held roles with America’s Warrior Partnership, the Bob Woodruff Foundation, and Wounded Warrior Project, expanding her expertise in rehabilitation, transition, economic opportunity, and collective-impact solutions.

“Supporting the military community is a lifelong passion of mine,” Bunce said. “For many years, I have admired the work by the Bush Institute for veterans and their families and am honored to now have the opportunity to lead this team during a pivotal time in our nation’s military history.”

Bunce, the daughter of a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, grew up moving across the country before settling near Washington, D.C. in the late 90s. After 9/11, her brother Justin joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was severely wounded in Iraq in 2004. His injury inspired her career supporting injured veterans and their families and continues to shape her purpose and dedication to military service.

The Bush Institute’s Veterans and Military Families program helps veterans and their families make successful transitions through leadership programming and research-driven policy recommendations. Our policy recommendations focus on the three pillars of veteran transition: education, employment, and health and well-being. The Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program and Team 43 develop leaders among veterans and those who aim to serve them. More information can be found at www.bushcenter.org. Check-In, another program connected to the Veteran and Military Families program and powered by the Bush Institute’s Veteran Wellness Alliance, connects veterans, service members, and their families to high-quality mental and brain health care. If you or someone you know is interested in starting their care journey, please visit veterancheckin.org.
