On Monday, June 19, The George W. Bush Institute, the Bipartisan Policy Center, the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies at SMU, the Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center, and the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth hosted a panel discussion titled, NAFTA, Borders, and Security, moderated by Wade Goodwyn of NPR.
The United States and Mexico share nearly 2000 miles of border and trade hundreds of billions of dollars in goods and services annually. With a NAFTA renegotiation imminent, panelists Representative Will Hurd, President of the North American Strategy for Competitiveness, Tiffany Melvin, and CEO of Mission Foods, Javier Velez Bautista, weighed in on the US-Mexico relationship and the overlap between trade and security.
The conversation is part of the Bush Institute’s Economic Growth initiative’s ongoing efforts to advocate free market principles that promote economic growth and further economic integration throughout North America, enabling the U.S. to better compete in the global economy.
